I didn't make it either, but I'm very interested in the agenda/timeframe for the 20 finalists. There's not a ton of time if the job is to begin June 1st. Does anyone have any insight into what is going to happen with the finalists? Is this reality t.v. idea still part of the plan?

The winner of the contest was promised to be announced the first week of June. We will be posting that winner’s name on the main page of this site no later than midnight on Thursday. The choice has been difficult due to the overwhelmingly creative responses to the final phase of the contest. Good luck all. ~CBB

We would be very interested to read some of the finalists' essays, if its OK with them. I don't envy you having to choose the winner, good luck on that!

Congratulations to Amanda. We are very happy for you. Maybe a little disappointed that I won't be down there. It was a great contest and kept us dreaming for a year since the entry was made. Thanks for a great contest and hopefully I'll get the chance again. In the mean time we expect great things from Amanda and a large quantity of blog entries detailing every step from here on out.

I have to say that I would have been more than disappointed if I had been chosen as a finalist and then did not get to fly down for that week also. That was a huge part of the contest. I also agree that dates were given and changed. But I do not think that all the things that were said above are necessary. If this guy is so upset he should handle it with Lazy Dog privately, not on the web for the whole world to see. I think you blew your lawsuit! Seeing this side of you indicates to me that you probably were not the best man for the job. Dude what were you thinking. Amanda congrats! Obviously Lazy Dog thought you were the best woMAN for the job. I hope this will be a fabulous experience for you. Do not let losers ruin it for you.

LazyWolf's comments were deleted due to their extreme mean-spirited and hurtful nature.

On Saturday, June 8th, 2007, LazyWolf wrote the following and requested that I post it here in the discussion forum.

On Thursday night after the announcement of the winner of the 'Win a Job in Key West' contest, I went on an ill-advised tirade...and for that I am very sorry. I had had a couple of drinks in waiting for that posting and that, combined with the ease with which we can hit that little button and send something in cyber-space, made me do something that I truly regret. So, like Mel Gibson and Michael Richards after their tirades, I guess I'll have to go to rehab now. It was a fun contest but I had too much emotion wrapped up in it and my daughter did as well...so when I saw her crying I became very vindictive leading me to say some things I shouldn't have. All day Friday, I felt worse about my reaction than about actually losing the contest. I aplogize to everyone I may have hurt by what I said.

Congratulations to Amanda Earl for winning our Win A Job In Key West contest.

We would like to thank all those who applied. We had some great and fun applicants. It was very hard to pick our overall winner.

After reading some of the comments on line we wanted to respond with a little more information about how we closed out the competition. There is a lot we want to say but unfortunately the timing is not quite right yet.

Here is what we can tell you: Lazy Dog started this competition as a fun and different advertising project that grew and grew. From very early in the competition we were approached to make it into a reality TV show. We had hoped to announce a deal months ago. The world of television executives, agents and productions companies is very new to us. The process is a lot slower that we would have liked. We had already put a closing date on the competition and were running out of time. Add to this we were told not to publicize the competition as it would lose its "freshness" and jeopardize a television deal. We even turned down a major talk show. This was counter productive to everything we had set out to do in the first place, but in true Lazy Dog style we decided to go for the two birds in the bush - not the one in our hand. We are still actively pursuing a deal with major players in the reality television world. Instead of delaying the contest any further we decided to be true to the competition and pick a winner, albeit with a little less fanfare and publicity than we would of liked.

We hope to make an official announcement soon. If and when the reality show is official we will be running the contest all over again. All those who entered the first contest will be automatically entered into the second contest if they desire.

Thank you again for participating in this fun campaign. Stay tuned.
